Why Choose DTG Primer (Pre-treatment)?
Pre-treatment is a solution that is applied to help white ink gel properly to the T-shirt you want to use. Mostly used on dark colored shirts, pre-treatment is the glue-like structure that binds your ink to the shirt and keeps colors protected on the surface.
- When printing on dark garments, pretreatment is essential. Lack color vibrancy and have a washed-out look if pretreatment isn’t used on dark garments. This is because DTG inks are water-based and not naturally opaque.
- Even though pretreatment isn’t required for white garments, it does offer benefits. These are increased image quality and durability. With the help of an excellent pretreatment, prints will last longer, even after multiple washings and regular wear.
- For most printers, these benefits outweigh the cost, as they can help increase customer satisfaction—fewer product returns, and allow for faster printing using less ink

How to Pre-treat T-Shirts for DTG Printing?
1.Get a large plastic container and create a stand to hold the plastic at a semi-upright position. 2.Switch on the heat press and turn the temperature to 320°F -356°F (Recommended temperature, can also be adjusted according to needs) 3.Press your shirt in a heat press for about 5 seconds to reduce the moisture level 4.Adjust the settings until you get the perfect spray pattern. You don’t want to drench the shirt. 5.Start spraying from side to side, moving in a downward position, and repeat the action. 6.Now bring your shirt to the heat press and hover it over the shirt for 11-16 seconds. 7.Use a Teflon sheet to press the shirt for 5 seconds. 8.Remove and replace the Teflon sheet. Repress the amount of (30-35s) time as instructed
FAQ 1.Can the pre-treatment last longer? Can you pre-treat t-shirts in advance? Totally. You can pretreat clothes ahead of time. It is advisable to pretreat shirts three weeks in advance and can expect a good outcome. 2.Ever need to pretreat a light color shirt? Pretreatment is necessary for light-colored garments as you will get improved colorfastness, and the image will wash better and last longer. 3.What are the types of material used for pretreatment? You can pretreat all types of materials except for some wood products. Using the right equipment for the proper pretreatment method helps the gel to blend properly into the garment. 4.How long you need to pretreat per T-shirt? Pretreatment usually takes less than a minute. It is best applied by using an automatic pretreat machine or a hand-held power paint sprayer. 5.Does the ink bleed to the back of the shirt? No, the ink doesn’t bleed into the back of the shirt, if it is dried up properly. Dry your shirt properly before applying pretreatment. This will help you in avoiding ink bleeding issues. 6.Can you use a dryer to dry the prints, or do you have to use an iron? To completely dry the prints, you need to use a professional heat press.
